FAQs

How Do You Make Crystal Clear Gelatin?

To make clear gelatin on it's own, you don't need many ingredients at all. All you need is 3 tablespoons of clear gelatin powder, 2 cups of sugar, 4 cups of water, 1 teaspoon of citric acid powder and 3 drops of clear food flavoring. Then all you need to do is grab a bowl and mix the gelatin with one cup of water. Leave for around 10 minutes. In a saucepan, heat the remaining water, citric acid powder and sugar. Stir regularly. Once dissolved, take off heat - do not let it boil. Add the gelatin to the pan and stir. Now add the food flavoring. Taste before your pour into your container and leave to chill.

How Do You Mix Clear Gelatin?

To mix the gelatin powder, it's super easy. As long as you ensure that you leave the gelatin in with cold water for at least ten minutes before you add it to your pan, and then ensure that you do not boil the mixture - mixing the gelatin with a whisk is super easy, and the powder will dissolve on it's own.

Can You Flavor Clear Gelatin?

Absolutely! You can flavor clear gelatin with anything you'd like. However, you need to ensure that whichever food flavoring you're adding, is clear. If you use colored varieties, it'll ruin the effect of clear gelatin completely. My favorite flavor to use is definitely vanilla.

How Do You Use Gelatin Powder in a Cake?

You can use gelatin and powdered gelatin in a cake; however, it doesn't really add much to a cake unless you're making gelatin art. This is because gelatin is most often used as a thickening agent or for decoration. For example, you can use gelatin in glazes, jellies, cream thickener - or even to put in between the layers of your cakes. Powdered gelatin is much more difficult to work with, as you need to get the water measurements exactly right.
